You Are a Masterpiece

1

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do (Ephesians 2:10).

The good news just keeps coming. This past Sunday, we declared, “He Is Risen!” Jesus has conquered the grave. By His selfless sacrifice, we have been transferred from the kingdom of darkness into the Kingdom of Light. We were once dead in our sins and are made alive in Christ. What gloriously good news, indeed!

In his letter to the Ephesians, the Apostle Paul makes the case that not only were we once dead and are now alive, but we have been made uniquely and crafted for a purpose.

Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago” (NLV).

Imagine this for a moment - God sees you as His masterpiece. The most skilled Craftsman and creative Artist that ever was or ever will be, formed you to reflect His image. How awe-inspiring is that? No, we are not yet perfect – that will come in our resurrected bodies. But God is faithful to continue to “smooth out our edges” and add finishing touches to our lives until we see Him in Glory.

In the meantime, He has created each of us uniquely to reflect Jesus to all those we encounter.

I get that it is hard sometimes to fathom that the God of the Universe has something specific for you to do for Him. But that is what His Word says. Whether you have been a follower of Jesus for 20 years or 20 minutes, He has prepared something for you to accomplish to glorify Him. What an amazing privilege!

He places us in places and spaces - in our homes, our schools, our workplaces for this reason. Who else in your sphere of influence needs to know about this free gift of salvation that Jesus purchased for us?

As recipients of this gift, we ought not just to be on cruise control - like those new “hands-free, self-driving” cars - and kick back until Jesus calls us home. He gives us each a unique purpose. Yes, even you. Even me.

We are invited to be about the Father’s business in this world until we meet Him in the world to come.

Lord, You are the Creator of all things. You make us new and we are beautiful in Your sight. Thank you that you have chosen us to reflect You and share your Good News to a lost and hurting world. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

You are such a gifted writer and I do find it hard to think of myself as a masterpiece
