Our Shelter in the Storm

2

I know that whatever God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it, and nothing taken away from it. God has made it this way, so that men will fear him (Ecclesiastes 3:14).

A few years ago, a man named Juan and his wife had a thriving small business in Chicago. It was highly rated on social media and all was going great - they were “living the dream.” Then suddenly a storm of racial and political unrest hit their city. In the midst of the tumult, they discovered if they wanted to keep their business open they had to make a choice. They could either embrace the very radical and very vocal minority, which would mean they would have to go against what they felt was God’s Way of Wisdom for their lives, or they would have to close their business.

Ultimately, they chose to trust God with their circumstances. They shuttered the doors of their successful business; left their friends and community they built over the preceding ten years and fled their city. They were without jobs and at times, even a place to live. But as Juan tells the story, while it wasn’t without difficulty, God was faithful to deliver them through the storm that hit them.

For the past several weeks we have been looking at The Way of Wisdom. We have been encouraged to understand more fully and deeply God’s instructions to us so that we can navigate challenges we will face in this life.

In Solomon’s reflections of the “seasons” of life that we experience on earth, we see that some are positive, and some are negative. If we are tempted to look at God and the world through the lens of our circumstances, we will not find rest and peace.

Instead, if we look at our circumstances through the lens of God and His Word, we will see His character and strength. Juan and his wife chose to see their circumstances through the lens of God’s perfect wisdom. They chose to trust Him during a very difficult time which involved threats not just to their livelihood, but also their lives. They found peace in the midst of the storm. They saw that God has a purpose for everything and ultimately, anything good and stable and true is found in the wisdom of God.

How has this series encouraged you to practice the Way of Wisdom? Perhaps you gained new insights into Godly wisdom as you read through the book of Proverbs or maybe you have drawn closer to Jesus, Your Rock and Solid Foundation, to withstand the storms of life. God’s Word invites us to ask, seek and knock (Matt. 7:7) and He will answer.

Succinctly put! I need this framed, front and center! Thank you, Elizabeth
