Your Own Interests: Philippians 2:3-4

4

"In humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others."

- from Philippians 2:3-4

How do you get to a place where you no longer have to look to your own interests? How do you get to a place where you're free to look to the interests of the others?

Our world is full of people offering to guide you to a place where your own interests will be met. "Follow my plan" they say, "and you'll be taken care of." Haven't we all tried something like "The Power of the Secret 4-Hour, 7-Habit New You (for Dummies)"?

Paul doesn't point us to a plan. He points us to a person. In Christ, our interests are taken care of completely. He has taken ownership of our interests and has taken care of us. When we know that we're taken care of in Christ, we're free to serve others.

Today, we want to ask you "Do you know that you're taken care of in Christ? Have you entrusted yourself to him? Is he the one you look to to take care of your interests?"

If you've never entrusted your interests to Christ, what's keeping you from doing it?

If you have entrusted your interests to Christ, what's that been like?

With all that has happened to me this past Spring/Summer I trusted God like never before and He provided wonderful support from my Christian family. It is so wonderful to have this community. It is hard for me to trust in God but I know I need to do that. I pray for my daughter to have this...

To quote Sylvestor Stallone in OSCAR, "I knew, I just had no idea!" Do I know in my head that I am taken care of? YES! Do I know in my heart and in that place from which I act and make decisions? I think not. Lord, I pray that I have a knowing akin to a well taken care of child when he asks WHAT'S for dinner, not IF there is dinner!!

This is completely the opposite of the 'looking out for number one mentality' of the secular world we live in. This scripture is such a clear call to live differently. The contrast is striking.

When I leave my interests to Christ's providence I always have what I need, mostly through my wonderful church. Sometimes the wait is hard but prayer and gratitude keep me from driving myself nuts with worry.
