Meditating on "Yes" and "Amen"

For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.
- 2 Corinthians 1:20

We’re going to invite you to meditate on this verse this morning.

The practice of Christian meditation, according to Richard Foster, involves filling your mind with the good news, beauty, and truth of God. Meditation offers us the peace that comes not from emptying ourselves but from filling our attention with the One who gives peace.

Here’s the exercise for today …

Find yourself a quiet place and a few quiet minutes. This exercise is most helpful if you can relax and rest while doing it.

Read through the verse above a few times to let it soak into your mind. Don’t dissect or analyze it. Just listen to it.

Close your eyes and take three slow, deep breaths. Then take a few minutes to roll the words around in your mind. What words or phrases stuck with you? What images come to your mind? What sounds do you imagine?

Our prayer for you this morning is that you would have an opportunity to encounter God as you meditate.

If it helps you, close your time in worship with a song like this one: “Yes and Amen” by Chris Tomlin
