Be A Witness for Christ

For through the law I died to the law, so that I might live to God. I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:19-20 ESV

Have you ever watched a court trial, participated in a mock trial, or read about one? There are many things that are associated with a trial, like the terms “plaintiff,” “defendant,” “jurors,” and “witnesses.” The jurors are essentially spectators who sit back and watch a trial, and have little involvement with the trial. The witnesses, however, are people who participate in a trial, and they do so by sharing a testimony that aids their party’s argument.

Are we willing to make the shift from being a juror to being a witness for Christ?

In this passage, it says, “I died to the law, so that I might live to God,” and, “It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.” These may sound contradictory; however, they are not. They are both referring to being “born again,” or baptism. No, we are not actually being born again, but we are being born into God’s perfect kingdom. Paul seems to use “dying” and “living” instead of being born again for a particular reason: to create a relationship between us and Christ! We wouldn’t be able to be a witness for Christ if we had no sense of relation to Him.

At the end of this passage, it says, “I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” We as Christians believe that Christ died for us, saving us from our sins. But how many of us act as if we believe that in our day-to-day lives? That does not mean you have to evangelize every single day, however, we should be living for the Lord and with the Fruits of the Spirit as we go about our lives. If we live like this, it is easy for us to shift from being jurors to being witnesses for Christ.

Lord, help us to become witnesses for You. Help us as we go about our days to live like we have been born again, and to live for You. Through our special gifts and talents, help us to share our testimony for you. Amen.
