Chatham Community Church is excited to be partnering with CORA food pantry to help feed hungry kids this summer!

In Chatham County 50% of public school children receive free or low-cost meals through the federal school lunch program because their household income is at or near the poverty level. More than 4,300 school children in Chatham County will not have adequate replacements for these meals during the summer in 2020.

Summer Nutritional Assistance for Chatham Kids, or SNACK!’s goal is to increase the accessibility of nutritious meals throughout the summer to children facing food insecurity in Chatham County.   SNACK! provides each participating child with 21 nutritious meals each week mid-June through mid-August. In 2019, CORA expanded SNACK! by increasing the number of meals provided per weeks from 15 to 21.   They provided 218,143 meals to children in 2019, this represents a 110% increase over 2018. In 2020, Cora has adjusted the program in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and they hope to serve nearly 2,000 children.

It costs about $150 to feed a child for the summer months.  Chatham Community Church has committed to sponsoring 200 children this summer. We will be using our benevolence fund, and would love for you to join us as you're able.  You can help in two ways, by donating or volunteering.
