Volunteer Willingness Assessment

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?”
And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”
- Isaiah 6:8

This Sunday, we’re celebrating our volunteers and everyone who has served and given time to our community in a variety of ways.

One of the ultimate volunteer stories in the Bible is the story of Isaiah. He hears the voice of the Lord calling out for a volunteer. And in one of the most compelling moments in Scripture, he says “I’ll do it!”

Isaiah’s willingness and eagerness to go where the Lord sends him is remarkable and beautiful.

We see this eagerness at work every week in Chatham Church.

Hands go in the air to set up and tear down and teach kids and hold babies and lead worship and pray and bake cookies and visit the sick and lead small groups and pull trailers and run lights and sound. And that’s just scratching the surface.

Week in and week out you all volunteer yourselves to go for God into homes and lives and schools and workplaces to engage the world God loves with the love of God. How can we do anything but celebrate what God is going through you?!?

Take a moment this morning and evaluate your own willingness to say “Here am I” to the Lord. Do a personal, volunteer willingness assessment. Where is it easy for you to volunteer yourself? What makes it difficult?
