Unshakeable Trust

For the king trusts in the Lord;
through the unfailing love of the Most High
he will not be shaken.
- Psalm 21:7

What a bald assertion we find in our passage today!

This is why the king is blessed: he trusts in the Lord. The engine that drives all of David’s glory is his trust in the Lord. This refrain is sounded again and again throughout David’s life. And when he wandered from his trust in the Lord – every time – he fumbled things badly.

Yesterday, we talked about Jesus as the fulfillment of God’s work to share glory with human beings. Today, we want you to see that Jesus is the king who will not be shaken. He also trusted in the Most High to carry him through.

The series of unfortunate events that life and the crowds threw at Jesus would have shaken many (if not all) of us. Persecuted by the religious authorities, abandoned by his closest friends, betrayed, arrested, tried unjustly, crucified and laid gently in a borrowed tomb. Through all of it his trust was not shaken. He was not shaken.

What can you be doing now to cultivate unshakeable trust that can withstand even the most difficult circumstances the future will throw at you? If you’re in a difficult circumstance now, what does it look like for you to trust in the Lord today?
