The Heart of Trust

2

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
    and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,

    and he will make your paths straight.
- Proverbs 3:5-6

Q: How much trust does it take to walk with the Lord for a lifetime?
A: More than you can hold in any given moment.

Let your imagination rest on the image of a trusting heart. For an entire lifetime blood pumps through the heart, bringing oxygen and (ultimately) life to the entire body. Gallons and gallons of life. 2000 gallons per day. But the heart couldn’t hold all that life in one moment. In any given moment, the human heart can only hold about 10 ounces.

The way the heart works, it has to keep a fresh and steady flow of blood. We need the same thing with trust. A fresh and steady flow of trust. Decision after decision to trust the Lord keeps life flowing through us.

We need to resist the once-for-all-time myth of trusting the Lord. We have to turn and return to trust over and over, in different ways and in different seasons of life.

What does it look like for you to turn to the Lord in trust in this season of life?

I am not a trusting person by nature. Events have led me to see life and the future as frightening and harmful. However, I am assured that God will never leave me and that hope restores my trust daily. CCC, Steve, Alex, others and the poem Hound of Heaven bring me back from the abyss.
Wondering if this is working now...??? I'll resend in an email, jic.

What a relief this morning's read was! It's good to be myopic at times--here it keeps us from feeling overwhelmed. Thank you for the insight and words to give permission to tackle trust just one day at a time.
