The Forgiveness of Sins

Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
- Matthew 7:24

“I believe in … the forgiveness of sins”
- from The Apostles’ Creed

Jesus ends his most famous sermon with a parable about two men. One man builds his house on rock and the other builds his on sand. One house thrives and the other collapses. The turn at the end of the parable (and of the sermon) is that wisdom is linked to putting Jesus’ words into practice.

Earlier in the year, we spent 5 weeks exploring the topic of forgiveness together. Many of us had powerful and meaningful and challenging encounters with God during this time.

We talked about hard things and beautiful things. We heard about God’s eagerness to forgive us. We heard his challenge to extend forgiveness to others. We wrestled with the complexities around both of these things.

Is there anything you need to follow through on from our time focusing on forgiveness? Think back. Were there any commitments you made that you haven’t followed through on? Were there any moves of forgiveness you thought about making that still might need to happen? Was there a forgiveness you needed to receive that has turned out to be tougher to accept than you expected?

Don’t let the opportunity of forgiveness pass you by. What do you need to do today?
