Prayer and Outcomes: Philippians 1:19

"I know that through your prayers and through the provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance"

- Philippians 1:19

In the same breath, Paul linked together the prayers of the Philippians and God's provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ. With both of these working for him - Philippian prayer and Jesus' Spirit - he knows that something good will happen to him. How do those two belong together?

Think about it. The powerful Spirit of Jesus Christ working on my behalf ... that sounds great. But a few friends praying ... what can that accomplish?

The cause of much of our prayerlessness is that we have convinced ourselves that our prayers don't effect outcomes. We think our public activity effects outcomes, that our hard work effects outcomes, even that God's Spirit effects outcomes. But prayer has an effect too.

How would you pray if you believed your prayer had an effect on the outcomes?

Take a few minutes to pray for someone in your neighborhood, workplace or family.

Take a few minutes to pray for Christians around the world who are being persecuted.

If you think we misused "effect" and "affect" ... let us know. We couldn't figure it out either! (HT Bob Willson)
