Pray for your community

Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.
- Jeremiah 29:7

As we close our study this week, let’s think about Jeremiah’s charge to pray to the Lord for the city. How can you pray for your community?

Start by praising God.

What good and beautiful things has your community helped you see about God? Where do you see signs of his beauty, light and truth in your neighborhood?

Take time to confess on behalf of your community.

Where do you see brokenness in your community? Where have you heard about evil and sin? How have you perpetuated that evil and sin – either through deeds you’ve done or deeds you’ve left undone?

Thank God for your community.

What are you grateful for about your community? What do you love about your neighborhood? What has God done in your city that makes you feel grateful toward him?

Ask God to bless your city.

What good things would you like God to do for your community? How would you like to see him bless your neighbors? What would you like to see him change or strengthen in your city?

Take time to pray today.
