Loved so much

“For God so loved the world…”
- from John 3:16

Have you ever seen a child stretching their arms out wide to say: “I love you this much!”? Oftentimes, there are sounds and gestures that communicate delight and joy at the amount of love offered and received. There is something about knowing that you are loved that just feels good.

Some of us see and receive daily reminders that we are loved. But it can be easy for these reminders to become so routine that we miss their power.

Others of us go years, maybe even most of our lives without ever being told that we are loved. We might struggle with believing that we are loved or even worth loving. That can be cripplingly painful.

No matter which of these situations most sounds like you, today's passage reaches out to you ... refreshing the ordinary and introducing good, good news:

“For God so loved the world…”

Slowly read those words again remembering that “the world” includes you.

What does reading those words make you think? How does it make you feel? Spend some time thinking of the difference it can make in your life and in the lives of others to know that each of us is loved by God.

Yes! For God so loves the world. For give. Love that gave us a renewed right relationship. That's what it's all about! (Forgive me if now you have the hokey pokey tune looping in your head all day long!)
I had heard the symbolism that Jesus loved us so much he stretched out his arms and died for us. Recently I was meditating on forgiveness. It comes from German ver geben and French par donner for give. He gives us a renewed right relationship with him!
