Kingdom of Heaven

The kingdom of heaven is like …
- from Matthew 13:24, 31, 33, 44, 45, 47

How would you fill in this blank: “The kingdom of heaven is like _________.”?

Perceptions of the kingdom of heaven vary widely.

Some picture clouds and pearly gates, everyone wearing white robes and carrying harps, great big wings and mansions everywhere. Everyone’s calm and peaceful.

Others picture a place that’s just like here but a little better. A big, big house with lots and lots of room. A big, big yard where we can play football. Everyone’s wealthy and comfortable and having fun.

What do you picture when you envision the kingdom of heaven? Do you imagine reunions with lost loved ones? Do you imagine Q&A times with God and his prophets? Do you imagine a judge’s bench and a tall throne?

Our mental images of the kingdom of heaven shape the way we live here on the earth today. This week we’ll be looking at a passage where Jesus described the kingdom of heaven. And his way of talking about the kingdom of heaven is pretty unique.

But today, before we get into that, we wanted to encourage you to take space to reflect on what it is that you believe about the kingdom of heaven.

What do you believe? Where do your beliefs come from?
