He is both Lamb and Priest

1

Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.

- Hebrews 10:19-22

Jesus is both our High Priest (representing us to God and God to us) and our Sacrifice (taking away our sins). We need him to be both of these for us.

As our Sacrifice, Jesus makes a way for us to draw near to God. Jesus – the Lamb of God – offers us his gentle, self-giving meekness. Even the hardest hearts can be drawn to him. He is willing to connect with the outcasts, the poor and the people on the margins. There’s nowhere we can go that he can’t find us.

As our High Priest, Jesus fills us with confidence and assurance to approach God. He speaks to us with authority and power. Only he can declare us forgiven. We listen for his voice and rejoice at his word. We follow him on the new and living way that he has opened for us.

Jesus has both the authority to forgive us and the meekness to submit to what was necessary to make our forgiveness possible.

Today’s application is to pray to Jesus as both the Lamb of God and as the High Priest. He is gentle and has authority. He is lowly and meek, yet all-powerful. How would you pray to a God like that?

So glad to hear read about The sacrifice (atonement) required for forgiveness. We doesn't seem like we hear much about it any more but if we don't understand the enormous price God payed for us to be forgiven, we will never understand the seriousness of sin and forgiveness becomes cheep. Its even more incredible to me when I think that Rhe Father, Son & Holy Spirit knew the cost to themselves before creating us and still chose to create us.
