God won't give up

1

In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
- Philippians 1:4-6

Paul feels a profound confidence that God’s good work with be carried by our good God all the way to the end. The seeds planted in our soul will grow. The building that God started in us will be finished and furnished. The kingdom will come, in our lives and in this world.

God will finish what he started. He won’t abandon us out of boredom or distraction. He won’t get frustrated and toss us aside when we become difficult. His love and affection for us will ensure that he finishes in us what he started in us. This is good news.

Sometimes, the good work that God started in us seems to be teetering. We slide back a couple of steps. We do something that seems out of character, or, at least, out of the character that we want to be true of us. The work of forgiving those who’ve hurt us, loving our enemies, and serving those in needs seems to be beyond our capacity. We desperately need someone to take the steering wheel and get our lives back on course.

God is not done with you. If you’ve got breath in your lungs and a rhythm in your heart, he’s still at work. He’ll take his time. The work won’t reach completion for a while. But don’t lose heart. God loves you and won’t let you go.

Who can you think of who needs to hear this? Who needs to hear that God loves them and won’t let them go? Who needs to know that God will never give up on them? Ask God to show you who you can share this with. Who comes to mind as you pray?
