Born to Be Blessed, Called to Bless
The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace (Numbers 6: 24-26).
The words of Numbers 6:24-26 have carried the hopes and prayers of countless generations. They remind us of the life-changing power of blessing—both to receive and to give.
My husband often sings a beautiful Korean blessing song, Born to Be Loved, while playing his guitar. Each time I hear it, peace and joy flood my heart. During my years in Korea, I experienced this song countless times at Christian gatherings, sung over me or others during meaningful transitions—farewells, birthdays, or the close of worship services—always paired with love and prayer. These are some of my most cherished memories, the singing of this blessing filling the atmosphere with God’s peace and love.
This song beautifully reflects the heart of the Aaronic blessing in Numbers 6:22-27. It declares that every person is deeply loved by God and created for a purpose.
At Chatham Community Church, we often sing a song of blessing based on Numbers 24-26 over each other and our community. (You can listen to this powerful blessing here.) When we do this, we are joining in the priestly work of putting the Name of the Lord upon His people (see verse 27). Singing these words of Scripture becomes a way of partnering with God, inviting His presence and power into the lives of those we bless. It’s an incredible reminder of how God acts through His Word and our prayers.
Do you want the atmosphere to change at your home or your workplace? Do you believe that God will hear your prayer and bless those you pray for? He is a loving God who wants to bless us and to bless through us.
For the last two years, I’ve committed to praying intentionally for a specific person each day. I began with one of my sons, and within a year, I witnessed a transformation that brought tears to my eyes. Now, I’m praying for God’s blessings over someone else. I haven’t seen the change yet, but I know God is at work, and I will keep praying in faith until His purposes unfold.
Take a moment to listen to these songs of blessing and let their words settle in your heart. As you reflect on how deeply God loves and values you, ask Him to show you someone who needs a reminder of His love. Then, whether through song or prayer, speak a blessing over them. You might be surprised at how powerfully God moves when you step out in faith to bless others.
