Blessed to be a blessing

“I will make you into a great nation,
    and I will bless you;
I will make your name great,
    and you will be a blessing.
I will bless those who bless you,
    and whoever curses you I will curse;
and all peoples on earth
    will be blessed through you.”
- Genesis 12:2-3

God’s people know that God’s blessing doesn’t guarantee an easy life. But God’s posture toward us to is to bless us. And when he blesses us, he intends his blessings to overflow out of our lives and into the lives of the people around us.

We are to be conduits, full to the brim and to the benefit of all peoples on earth.

Don’t be a cistern. Don’t hoard God’s blessings to you.

God has shown you mercy, so be merciful.
God has given you courage, so encourage others.
God has healed you, so reach out to those who are sick.
God has blessed you with wealth, so be generous.
God has you in a home, so be hospitable.
God has been patient with you, so be patient with others.
God has sparked an insight in you, so share what you’ve learned.
God has made you creative, so go make something.
God has loved you, so love your neighbor and your enemy and everyone you can.

As God’s blessings pile up in and around us, we need to share them with others. Only then will God’s blessings to us be complete.

How has God blessed you? How have God’s blessings to you spilled over into the lives of others, to be a blessing to them? Where do you need to share your blessings with others?
