 Jonah Web Main

Most people know there is a story in the Bible about a guy named Jonah who spent some time inside a big fish, but they may not know what the story of Jonah is supposed to teach us about our relationship with God. Jonah was a guy a lot like us—he believed many of the right things and did many good things as well. But that wasn’t the whole story. Like us, there were times when he didn’t much care what God had to say, and he chose to run away from God. Avoiding God’s commands may bring momentary happiness, but there is always a cost to running from God. Because God is ruthlessly committed to our joy, he pursues us and invites us to turn things around. Like a loving father, he disciplines his children in order to lead us to fullness of joy that lasts forever. Following God is a life-long process of learning to run with God rather than running away from God.
